The Small Change That Made A Big Difference: Updating My Windows.
Sometimes it’s the small changes that can make the biggest difference in a space. When I bought this house, I saw potential. The home had a vintage, almost medieval feel to it, but I knew that with a few simple updates here and there, I could create a space that felt more like me.
The windows were stained a deep red tone, including the frames, and had antique brown hardware closures. The walls were also painted a vintage golden yellow that my earthy, rustic soul was ready to change.
To start, I stripped the red stain from the window panes, which revealed the natural wood underneath. Instantly, the space began to feel warmer and more rustic. I then primed and painted the window frame white to give the room a cleaner, more modern look.
I considered keeping the antique brown hardware, but instead decided to spray paint it matte black to better complement the rest of my decor.
Just changing the window finish and hardware made a surprising difference. The space now feels lighter, warmer, and more like the rustic modern style my earthy soul loves.
If you have wood windows in your home, something as simple as changing the color can completely transform the look of a room. Stripping paint to reveal natural wood can create a beautiful rustic feel, or you can paint the panes and frames a color that better fits your style.
In previous homes, I’ve also painted panes and frames white instead of replacing them, which can be very costly; it brightened the rooms and made a big impact on the look.
So before replacing windows or starting a major renovation, consider working with what you already have. Whether you strip the wood or repaint the frames, a small change like this can completely refresh a space.
Yes, it may take your time, but remember this is your home and your space to create something you truly love.
